Your Impact
When you support The Salvation Army, you ensure that our mission is carried out in the following key areas:
Overcome Poverty
Poverty has many faces and causes. These causes include economic conditions like short and long-term unemployment, lack of affordable housing, mental illness, food deserts, addiction, educational voids, financial literacy, various forms of abuse, and more.
Because of supporters like you we can meet people where they are in life. Through programs that serve the body, mind, and soul, we can combat the causes of poverty and help people build a pathway to where they want to be. This holistic approach helps create sustainable change in millions of lives every single day.

Not knowing where to turn, Angelique contacted The Salvation Army, which provided help with the utility bill and food so the couple and their 7-year-old daughter wouldn’t go hungry.
But Angelique wanted to do more than just survive. Because of you, she was able to join our Pathway of Hope program, designed to help hard-working, dedicated families who simply don’t have the means to get ahead on their own.
Angelique was taught how to balance her family’s budget and how to set short- and longterm goals that lead to self-sufficiency.
Then it happened. Just when things started to look up, Angelique’s husband was seriously injured in an auto accident. Once again, the medical bills began to pile up.
But Angelique never gave up on her dream. “Sometimes we may feel like our circumstances are overwhelming,” explains Lieutenant Kate Borerro of The Salvation Army. “But as time goes on, we can look back and see that God was carrying us through like a father carries his child.”
Eventually, Angelique’s husband was able to make a full recovery. Now, with guidance from her Pathway of Hope coordinator, she is moving closer to her lifelong dream of one day becoming a nurse – a dream you helped come true.
Thank you for your partnership that makes this work possible.

Help Disaster Survivors
We can help communities recover from natural disasters thanks to people like you.
The Salvation Army is the first to have boots on the ground and the last to leave when disaster strikes, because we’re already present in most communities. Our staff and volunteers are part of that community, working for weeks, months or even years to help their neighbors until the scars of destruction are covered with hope and renewal. Our disaster services teams also respond year-round to local emergencies – like house fires – serving survivors and first responders.

Alleviate Hunger
You help The Salvation Army feed an average of 150,000 meals every single day. Our holistic approach to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each person helps move many from crisis to empowerment.
You support ensures The Salvation Army can feed the hungry based on the local needs of each community we serve.
-
Those in need across the Northeast can get nutritious, hot meals or groceries from their nearest Salvation Army Service and Worship Center.
-
We feed thousands daily, including the most vulnerable of our communities — underserved children in our after-school programs, the elderly at our Adult Day Centers, forgotten friends at our homeless shelters, people looking to better their lives at our addiction recovery facilities, survivors rebuilding their lives after a disaster, and domestic violence and anti-human trafficking victims.

Brighten the Holidays
Every year, parents must choose between giving their children gifts or paying bills. Individuals facing poverty often spend the holidays without the warmth of a shared meal or even a support system.
The holidays bring added financial and emotional stress to families and individuals living in poverty. From gifts for children in need to special meals for those who would otherwise go without fellowship on the holidays and meeting other basic needs – we aim to bring joy back into the season with your help.
You help us celebrate the birth of Christ by spreading His hope, love and joy to those who are hurting during the holidays and throughout the year. Our services are a direct answer to God’s calling to care for the poor, hungry, sick, and displaced.

Shortly after, Luciana walked in to inquire about volunteering and mentioned she spoke Spanish and Portuguese. Like many of our volunteers, Luciana works during the day and keeps a busy schedule cleaning houses but stops in between jobs to help in any way she can. She began volunteering with our breadline, a program that distributes donations from local grocery stores to struggling families in the community. During the Christmas season, Luciana helped us pack toys for the children of families that have applied for some extra help with food and gifts.
Her most significant impact has been on the seniors in our Senior Angel Tree program. This seasonal program provides simple Christmas presents like a pillow, blanket, and other gifts, including clothes and coats, to seniors on tight incomes and, typically, limited mobility. Though Christmas had come and gone, the pandemic continued to take its toll on seniors still isolated in their homes and shut out from visits from family and friends. We tasked Luciana to reach out to check in on them whenever she stopped in to help. Little did we know what hearing a friendly voice speaking their language meant to them. Not only were our senior friends appreciative to hear from The Salvation Army, but the calls broke down barriers to many of these seniors getting necessary services. Several seniors expressed their need for food. We provided food for two seniors the very next day and several the following week. These grateful seniors said it was nice to hear a caring voice offer assistance just when they needed it.

“When hopelessness is in somebody’s mind, it’s just so hard for anyone to take a step. So, when we are able to provide a little hope and then they start generating their own hope, amazing things happen.”
— Lt. Bree Barker, The Salvation Army
